Since I was 5, I’ve been a part of the cub scouts and eventually as I got older I joined the Boy Scouts of America. I continued to be a part of the scouts and I eventually went on to lead my Boy Scout Troop of more than 40 people. During my time as the Senior Patrol Leader, I implemented several new processes to help our troop run more effectively and productively. I implemented new equipment checking procedures to minimise any broken/damaged equipment issues before our campouts as well as a points system to encourage more productive weekly meetings.
Besides leading my troop, I am proud to say that I am an Eagle Scout, the highest rank possible in scouting and something that only 4% of Boy Scouts achieve. This process takes several years and is culminated by an extensive ‘Eagle’ project. This project must be something that provides great value to an established organisation. The project must be completely planned and organised by the prospective Eagle Scout, from budgeting to proposals to meetings.
My Eagle Project
I am proud to say that for my Eagle Project I successfully designed and coordinated the building of an outdoor classroom for my local temple. This project consisted of constructing benches and an outdoor board as well as constructing benches and installing potted plants for a courtyard. Here is a picture of what the site looked like before:
As you can see, the site was pretty bare and uninspired. This area wasn’t being used, so there was a great opportunity to make a change. Our team completed work over the course of 3 days. We started first with constructing the benches and weatherproofing them:
After all the benches were completed, it was time to construct the outdoor board for the classroom, that would be used by teachers. To build the board, we had to first pour concrete and plant posts in the ground:
After the posts were installed, the board was mounted, the plants were potted, and the benches were put in. We turned an empty lawn and uninspired courtyard into something that could provide a great outdoor space for education and a relaxing place for parents to wait to pickup their children. Here is the final result:

After completing all requirements, including the project, I was finally awarded with Eagle Scout!
